Let’s repurpose Ikea "Lack" wall shelf unit again!

Move in day

Years ago, we decided to move into a new home as we began to prepare ourselves for a new chapter in our lives.

Yes, kids! Which means more space! And new memories!

In addition, we had another purpose in moving to a new home.  We needed a bigger space for our lovely cats.  But most importantly, spacious and safe space for our CH kittens with mobility disabilities.

Our new home had a huge space in the Den area which was intended for a dining purpose I think.  We quickly decided to partition the space.  But how was the question.

Well, Ikea turned out to be a great rescue plan and we filled our small car with butt load of Ikea products.

I was super excited and didn’t hesitate to run with the assembly the same night.  This video can easily turn into multiple episodes so I’ll cut to the chase with the specific ikea hack I performed over the years with 1 particular ikea product.

This is a LACK, a wall shelf unit that float on a wall.  I bought 5 of them and used one of them as an end unit of my wall partition and 4 of them as cat benches in the cat room for non-CH cats to roam and jump around.

As many of my non-CH cats aged, they favored roaming on sofas and beds versus cat benches.   So, as my next repurpose exercise, I decided to repurpose 3 of these floating wall units for storing my kids’ toys in the Livingroom.

And an unfortunate event took place, we had an water damage from the second floor down to the Livingroom.  This gave me a opportunity to renovate my Livingroom to this new look.  But of course, this can be a totally separate video on its own.

So now, as my wall needs either needed to thrown out of repurposed, I collected few remaining ones with decent quality to hack them again for the one more time.

This time, I decided to repurpose them for its original intent – a bookshelf.  I saved two of them and connected them together as one floating corner shelf unit.  I installed them on a wall where there’s a wall molding so I had to cut the molding gently to fit my shelves in between.  I then bought some long pine boards from home depot and used my miter saw to cut them to a proper length and built a custom frame to finish the look.
